Terms & Refund Policy
Plain-language terms for using datacenterwaterleaks.com and the Pro Supporter subscription.
The short version: the map and summary charts are free. A free account unlocks the data tabs and downloads.
Pro Supporter ($7/month or $84/year) unlocks site, basin, utility and Loudoun reports, the Facility and Project Explorers, Pro map layers and map printing, and helps fund FOIA requests and hosting.
It renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from the account menu, and you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
1. Pro Supporter subscription
- Price. $7 per month or $84 per year, in U.S. dollars, billed through PayPal. Prices may change; any change applies only from your next billing period after we give you notice by email.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) and PayPal charges your chosen payment method until you cancel.
- What you get. Access to Pro reports (site, basin, utility and Loudoun County reports), the Facility Explorer and Project Explorer, Pro map layers (live streamgages, 2035 projected sites, groundwater wells, wastewater plants, reclaimed water, recycled water lines) and the Print Map tool while your subscription is active. Features may be added, changed or improved over time.
- Your account. Pro is tied to the email address you sign in with. Please don't share your account.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Pro access pauses until PayPal successfully collects the payment.
- Payments. Payments are processed by PayPal. We never see or store your card or bank details.
2. Cancellations & refunds
How to cancel
- Sign in, click your email at the top right, and choose Cancel subscription; or
- In PayPal, go to Settings → Payments → Manage automatic payments and cancel "Data Center Water Leaks".
Cancelling stops all future payments. You keep Pro access until the end of the period you already paid for, and then your account returns to a free account. Your free account and sign-in stay active.
Refunds
- Payments already made are generally non-refundable, and we don't give partial refunds for unused time.
- Charged by mistake? If you were charged in error, charged after cancelling, or subscribed by accident, email us within 14 days of the charge and we will refund it.
- Yearly subscribers who cancel within 14 days of a new yearly charge can ask for a full refund of that charge.
- Refunds go back to the original payment method through PayPal and usually appear within 5–10 business days.
3. Using the site
- You may view, cite and share information from this site for research, journalism, advocacy, education, public comment and personal use. Please credit Data Center Water Leaks (datacenterwaterleaks.com).
- Please don't resell Pro reports, republish them in bulk, or use automated tools to scrape the site or get around the sign-in or Pro access.
- Don't use the site to break the law or to interfere with its operation.
- We may suspend accounts that misuse the site, and we may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue Pro, we'll refund the unused part of any prepaid period.
4. About the data
The information on this site is compiled from public records obtained through FOIA requests, corporate sustainability reports and public government datasets (including U.S. EPA, USGS, U.S. Drought Monitor, DOE and PNNL IM3). Estimates and projections are modeled and may differ from actual water use.
All information is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, for transparency and informational purposes. It is not engineering, legal, financial or investment advice. Always check original sources before relying on the data for a decision. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of the site or its data, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Spotted an error? Please tell us. Corrections make the data better for everyone.
5. Privacy
- What we collect. Your email address (and organization, if you give it) when you sign in; which reports you open; and, for Pro, your PayPal subscription ID, plan and status.
- Why. To run your account and Pro access, understand which data is most used, and, if you opt in, send the newsletter.
- Who processes it. Supabase (sign-in and database), PayPal (payments) and our email provider. We do not sell your information.
- Your choices. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing us.
